Health Insurance for Malaria

Health insurance for malaria has been designed to provide coverage for medical expenses incurred on the treatment of malaria. It pays for the cost of hospitalization, OPD treatment, diagnostic tests, ambulance charges, post-hospitalization consultations, etc., while obtaining treatment for malaria. Moreover, some health insurers pay a lump sum amount on the diagnosis of malaria under vector-borne diseases insurance.

What is Malaria?

Malaria is a vector-borne disease caused by parasites transmitted through the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito. Although the disease is curable, it can lead to jaundice and anaemia. In severe cases, malaria can cause severe health conditions like coma, brain damage, seizure, organ failure, trouble breathing and ultimately, death.
The symptoms of malaria usually appear 10 days to a month after a person is infected with malaria. However, some types of malaria parasites can stay inactive in the human body for almost a year.
